OpenAI appears to be testing a new “Writing Style” feature for ChatGPT that will help you learn how to write based on examples from your connected apps.
The feature is currently available to a small group of users, and an onboarding screen reads: “ChatGPT writes with your voice, pointing to examples from your connected apps.”
As shown in the screenshot, users can provide samples in three categories: Messages, Documents, and Email.
OpenAI lists Slack under messaging, Google Drive and Notion for documents, and Gmail for email.
Once configured, ChatGPT can draw on the way you naturally write on these services when designing new content, rather than requiring you to repeatedly explain your preferred tone of voice or insert examples into a conversation.
It sounds similar to Claude Styles, but goes further with connected apps
Anthropic previously offered a similar personalization feature called “Styles,” which allowed users to upload or insert writing samples and then generate a custom style based on their communication patterns.
OpenAI’s experiment appears to take a different approach by allowing ChatGPT to reference texts that already exist in connected services.
This could give ChatGPT a much wider range of real-world examples, including how you write emails versus messages or longer documents.
OpenAI has confirmed that it is testing the writing style, but we don’t know when it will be widely available to users.
