TL; DR
- Google says it has fixed an issue that caused Google Home devices to play the wrong playlists.
- Users have reported receiving unrelated songs, albums or playlists instead of what they asked for.
- Google hasn’t explained what caused the issue, and we’re waiting for user confirmation that the fix worked.
Even if you’re getting along well with Google’s smart speaker, you’d better expect it to do the right thing, play the right music when it asks. Apparently, this is not the case lately. After the YouTube Music playback bug that affected Nest Hubs a few months ago, Google now says it has fixed another issue that frustrated Home users who requested playlists.
The company responded to at least two recent headlines today r/googlehome subredditwhere users complained that Google Home devices were playing the wrong music when requesting a specific playlist. Google’s official Nest Community account said, “We’ve fixed an issue that caused the wrong playlists to play,” and asked users to report it if it still happened.
One Nest Mini owner said the issue has been going on for months, asking for a specific Spotify playlist instead and playing unrelated music. Another thread It’s as if Google decided another album, song, or playlist was close enough to describe the same thing.
Google has not explained what caused the issue or what has changed to fix it, and the response is still too new for user confirmation. If you’ve been arguing with your Google Home lately about what to ask it to play, let us know in the comments if it’s playing fine now.
