TL; DR

  • Google releases battery usage reports for Pixel 10 and later devices.
  • This feature shows abnormal battery drain and identifies apps that use the most power.
  • We first spotted the feature in development two weeks ago, which suggests that the Gemini Nano will run inferences on the device.

Pixel phones provide a lot of information about where the battery is charging, but Google is adding a simple way to understand it. It looks like the new Battery Usage Summary feature is now rolling out to the Pixel 10 and later.

A screenshot shared with us by Telegram user @avasthiamit shows the summary displayed at the top of the Battery Usage page. In this example, the phone shows about 15% battery usage, which is more than usual for that time of day, and identifies WhatsApp and Google as the most power users.

Google Pixel Battery Usage Summary

We first spotted the feature in development two weeks ago and had access to its interface, but it wasn’t fully functional at the time. Our teardown revealed that the Gemini Nano is used to perform inferences locally on the device.

Google marked the release with an update Pixel support page With official information on battery usage results. According to the company, this feature identifies apps that consume the most battery, monitors background activity, and compares overall and app-specific battery consumption to a recent average.

This feature requires the latest version of AI Core and is automatically enabled when available. Google says it’s available on the Pixel 10 and later. In practice, it will hopefully save you from having to search for battery graphs and individual app stats when you’re draining your phone faster than expected.
