US-listed spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have capped their best month of 2026, along with bitcoin’s biggest monthly gain since November 2024.
Bitcoin ETFs attracted $3.52 billion in net inflows in August, their highest monthly total since 2026 and a sharp increase from just $172 million inflows in July. According to In SoSoValue data.

August’s momentum quickly gave way to a weak start in September, as ETF flows turned negative and Bitcoin briefly fell below $77,000.
August cut year-to-date outflows by 66% to $1.77B
August’s $3.52 billion bitcoin ETF inflow reduced net outflows by nearly 66% year over year, from $5.29 billion to $1.77 billion.
According to SoSoValue data, the largest monthly outflow was $4.51 billion in June, followed by $2.43 billion in May and $1.61 billion in January.

Funds recorded net inflows on 16 of the 21 trading days in August, including nine consecutive sessions from August 17 to August 27.
Total net assets stood at $99.61 billion at the end of August, up nearly 31% from $76.29 billion at the end of July. Monthly trading volume rose nearly 49% to $58.63 billion from $39.37 billion.
September begins with $236M in Bitcoin ETF outflows
US spot bitcoin ETFs opened September with net outflows of $236.46 million, reversing the $216.70 million net inflows recorded on Monday. The withdrawal marked the biggest daily outflow since July 31, when the fund lost $265.37 million.
The move comes after Bitcoin briefly dipped below $77,000 on Tuesday after trading above $80,000 in late August. According to That’s CoinGecko.

Ether and XRP ETFs remained in positive territory on Tuesday. Spot Ether (ETH) ETFs attracted to About $11 million on Tuesday, while the spot XRP (XRP) ETF to draw $14.4 million.
Ether pushed the ETF into positive territory for August 2026, with net inflows of $732 million for the year to July ending at about $1.12 billion.
XRP ETFs reached $502 million in net inflows for the year, up nearly 46% from $343 million at the end of July.
