Apple is cutting the team behind Vision Pro, its long-suffering VR headset, while eliminating positions across other teams, Bloomberg reports. report.
More than 200 positions, all told, have been cut, sources told Bloomberg, including about 100 from the Vision Pro team. Another 100 impacted the team behind Siri and another called Intelligent Systems Experience, which focuses on integrating AI into devices. Sources say the company is making new changes to focus on new AI efforts and new devices.
Apple confirmed the cut to Bloomberg, saying it is looking “to evolve our business to provide the best experience for our users.” It added: “While we will be creating new roles as part of this change, it will also affect the limited number of existing roles.” TechCrunch contacted Apple for more information.
Apple is currently enduring a difficult transition period. The company is trying to fix its position in AI – while the shortage of memory triggered by the construction of AI also pushes up the cost of manufacturing its flagship product.
Apple raised prices on Macs and iPads earlier this summer, and the company recently introduced lease plans for all of its major hardware products — an effort to bring in a wider range of customers as it offsets new costs. Now the company is also being sued by OpenAI, which it is accused of stealing.
