Apple Wallet driver’s license is coming to new US states soon

Apple Wallet’s support for digital driver’s licenses continues to expand, with North Carolina becoming the latest state announced that it will be launched soon. Here are the details.

North Carolina is set to launch a digital ID, with Apple Wallet support

A new digital driver’s license is launching soon, with support in Apple Wallet to follow soon.

North Carolina has announced Mobile ID is coming later this year, allowing residents to get a digital driver’s license that can be stored on their iPhone.

Initially, the ID will only be available in the official NC Wallet app. But the state said Apple Wallet support is coming “In early 2027.”

North Carolina is exploring mobile ID and new ways to make digital services easier for residents. We want to learn about your experience and get your feedback on some initial ideas.

Participants will receive a $50 digital gift card for their support.

In addition to North Carolina’s confirmation of Apple Wallet support, we’ve recently seen signs of several other states preparing to adopt Wallet ID. Those include Utah, Virginia, and Oklahoma.
