WhatsApp is preparing to eliminate one of its biggest friction points by allowing you to make voice and video calls with people who don’t have an account. According to a new report WABetaInfothe messaging platform is working on a new guest call feature for WhatsApp Web that will allow non-users to join calls via a link without having to download the app, create a profile or verify their phone number.
Call anyone, no account required
Earlier this year, WhatsApp launched a guest chat feature that allows users to send text messages to non-users by sharing a link. The platform now appears to be extending the same approach to voice and video calling. Based on details revealed by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will soon allow users to create a call link and share it on any channel. Recipients can open the link in a desktop browser to jump directly into the conversation, bypassing account settings.

To address privacy concerns, WhatsApp reportedly relies on browser-generated temporary session IDs to generate encryption keys, ensuring that guest calls maintain full end-to-end encryption without collecting permanent user credentials.
Built-in fuses keep hosts in check
Although dropping the account requirement significantly speeds up communication, it also raises obvious security concerns about uninvited participants. WhatsApp will reportedly address this potential issue by giving hosts full control over who can connect. Guests cannot join an active call just because they have the link. All guest entries must be manually approved by the host.
Additionally, hosts reserve the right to remove a problematic guest or end the call entirely at any time during the session. WABetaInfo notes that the guest calling feature is currently under development and not yet available in beta. WhatsApp hasn’t shared an official rollout schedule, but the feature is likely to come to public testing in the coming months once development is complete.
