A new reference in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS suggests that users may be able to replace the app’s standard emoji reactions with their own selections. Here are the details.
WhatsApp tests a set of customizable emoji reactions
As seen by WBetaInfoWhatsApp’s latest TestFlight build includes a reference to a “default reaction” setting that lets users change which emojis appear in the app’s reaction tray.
When users long press the button, they will see the emoji reaction tray, which currently starts with 👍, ❤️, 😂, 😮, 😢, and 🙏. These six default reactions are followed by common or recently used emojis in the horizontal scrolling tray. Users can also tap the + button to quickly find another emoji.
However, according to WBetaInfoThe discovery of, a new feature, which may be exclusive to WhatsApp Plus subscribers, will allow users to replace any of those six default reactions with an emoji of their choice.
from WBetaInfo:
In future updates, WhatsApp will fix this problem by introducing default reactions. With this feature, users will be able to manage their reaction tray directly from the app settings. The attached image shows both the default setting on the left and the custom version on the right. In the second screenshot, you can see a completely different emoji selected from the full keyboard. Users will be able to replace any emoji from the keyboard, and they can change as many as they want. Users will also be able to restore the initial reaction tray at any time.
WBetaInfo Note that this feature is not available even to beta testers. However, since a similar reference was recently found in the WhatsApp beta for Android, it may not be long before the platform starts rolling out the feature to beta testers before the wider launch.
