TL; DR
- Google is working on adding new Chat and Appointment buttons to Gemini.
- The Chat option allows users to chat with Gemini.
- The Assign option allows users to assign tasks to Gemini Spark.
Google really wants you to use Gemini Spark on mobile. This is evident in the overhaul and tweaks the company is making to the Gemini app to make Spark more easily accessible. Last month we spotted Google working on a new ‘Task Assignment’ option in Gemini, and now we’ve seen the company try another trick.

Looking at the latest version of the Google app (v17.54.10), we see that Google is working on a new way to give users quick access to Spark on mobile. Currently, if you want to access the Spark app on mobile, you have to open the sidebar and tap the Spark button.
With the new feature, you’ll see two new buttons on the Gemini home screen: Chat and Appointment. When “Chat” is selected, you can chat with Gemini as before. However, switching to “Destination” will send your messages to Gemini Spark instead. This can save a lot of time, especially for people who use Gemini and Gemini Spark extensively and need both.
It’s worth noting that this feature already seems to be working as expected, but there’s no word on when or if Google will roll it out. The previously identified “Assign a Task” feature was also not shown to users, suggesting that Google may be taking time to figure out the best way to make it easier for users to access Spark on mobile. This new “Chat” and “Assign” feature looks better to me than the “Assign Task” option.
