John Ternus officially took over as CEO of Apple, replacing Tim Cook, who held the position for 15 years.
A former senior vice president of hardware engineering, Ternus stepped into the CEO role at a difficult time for Apple. On September 9, the company will host its annual iPhone event, which is rumored to include Apple’s first release. Foldable iPhone. Apple is also expected to widely launch its revamped Siri AI, a major opportunity for the company to position Siri on par with chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude.
“We have a big launch next week that will be phenomenal,” Ternus wrote in a Memo to the staff on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg. “I’m very excited about what’s beyond that, including the incredible product that’s in the works and what we never thought we’d dream up and create together.”
There are rumors that Apple is working on several new products such as AirPods with a camera, smart glasses, and Touch screen laptop.
“I take great comfort in handing over the helm to someone as smart and wonderful and capable as John,” Tim Cook wrote to employees on his last day as CEO.
