Indie App Spotlight: ‘Notepad.exe’ is the fastest and lightest code editor for your Mac.

Welcome to the Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you are a developer and want your app to stand out, please get in touch.

Writing a little code shouldn’t be difficult. Normally you have to program and go through menu steps before you can start writing. Notepad.exe Change that script, and believe that you should start with a blank file first, and figure out the project later – making it much easier to put your ideas on paper.

Highlights

Notepad.exe Comes with a very native-feeling UI, similar to Xcode – but without all the bugs. It supports running Swift, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Go, all out of the gate. Just write your code, and press run. If you want to build something further, you can turn it into a project.

It provides a Notes library for easily sorting through all your files you’ve created, without having to remember where you created your single file.

Notepad.exe also has a built-in coding helper, allowing you to use Codex registrations or local models to troubleshoot problems in your codebase.

And, as a cherry on top – it has a sweet option to bring your simulator into the text editor, making it a great workflow for iOS developers writing SwiftUI.

Download the app

Notepad.exe Can be downloaded from the developer’s website here. For the core experience, the app is free without an account. For a fully featured experience, you can purchase Notepad.exe Pro, which will run you $19.99/year or $45 for an ongoing license with all updates within version 1.x.
