Hands on with the foldable iPhone Duo (Gallery)

Apple launched the highly anticipated iPhone Duo today, the first foldable iPhone. I spent a few quick minutes with the device after it was announced, this is what it looks like in the real world.

The iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR internal display with a 5.4-inch external display. The internal display has a matte nano-texture that helps reduce the visibility of scratches and reduce glare. It worked well, because I found it hard to notice the cracks in most corners. The design of the hinge is also impressive.

The iPhone Duo looks as incredible in person as it does in today’s highlight video. It feels very futuristic, like some kind of magical engineering. Form factor is going to unlock tons of smart use cases, both for production and consumption. The software experience is impressive, highlighted by the gradual transition that occurs when you turn the phone on or off.

More thoughts on today’s Apple news to come. The iPhone Duo is scheduled for pre-order on October 16th and will be officially launched on October 23rd. Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage.
