Global memory shortage hits MacBook Air

A global memory chip shortage is affecting the availability of Apple’s most popular Mac, According to Mr. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

Gurman said the shortage — caused by demand from chip-hungry AI companies — has affected Apple’s more flagship computers, the Mac mini and Mac Studio. But it seems that the company is now struggling to keep the MacBook Air in stock, with retailers saying that supply appears to be more limited than before.

Indeed, anyone trying to buy a MacBook Air from Apple’s website will have to wait until mid-August – or for certain configurations, until September.

Gurman said Apple is working to solve the problem by raising prices and sourcing memory from Chinese suppliers. Meanwhile, the company has postponed its latest back-to-school promotion from June. And for the first time, marketing materials are focused on the basic model of the MacBook Pro. It even Warning“MacBook Air subject to availability.”
