According to Microsoft’s AI at Work Roadmap, it plans to release a large scale for desktop and web in September 2026.
Organizing data in Excel is one thing; it’s another to make it stand out. Fortunately, Microsoft is adding some exciting new Copilot features to their spreadsheet software that make it easy to create interactive canvases that display your data. Best of all, it keeps tabs on everything you change and automatically updates the canvas as you work.
Microsoft’s new Excel Canvas feature makes it easy to create and maintain visual data
It should roll out to everyone this month
You can see the details here Roadmap to AI at Work. Microsoft has several different roadmaps to inform businesses and customers about what to expect from future updates. AI at Work is a roadmap that, as you might expect, includes the introduction of new Copilot and AI tools.
This time we will consider Roadmap ID 569424: Excel canvas. It was added to the roadmap earlier this month and reads:
A canvas created by Copilot that transforms workbook data into a polished, interactive representation of key visualizations, metrics, and insights. Whenever the workbook data changes, it is automatically updated to reflect the latest information. Users can change the canvas by talking to Copilot.
This looks like a really useful feature, especially the part where Excel automatically updates the visual when you make changes to the workbook. If done right, I can see it saving a lot of time and effort when creating interactive guides for your data.
Microsoft seems confident that it will be able to release this new Excel canvas feature in September 2026, despite being marked as “Under Development”. When it arrives, desktop and web users will be able to take advantage of this handy new feature.
