OpenAI has quietly added one of the more fun updates to ChatGPT lately, and it’s all about stickers. Now you can take any photo in your library and turn it into a custom sticker, complete with a matching transparent background.
How to make stickers with ChatGPT
Getting started is easy. Open the Pictures section in the sidebar, tap Stickers, and upload one photo or multiple photos at once. Choose from a variety of sticker styles, including 3D, hand drawn, holographic, comic, anime, and more.

From there, you can ask ChatGPT to convert your images into stickers individually, or you can remix several to create a complete package. You can also add or remove elements from the image before it becomes a sticker.
Once you like the look of a particular image, you can borrow its style and apply it to your new sticker. If you don’t have a reference image handy, you can simply type in the style you envision and ChatGPT will take it from there.
Where can you send the stickers?
If you are satisfied with the result, tap the Add to chat apps button to export. There are currently three options:

- iMessage
- WhatsApp, but you will need at least three stickers ready to export
- Save to Photos
WhatsApp’s three-sticker rule was not decided by OpenAI. It’s actually a requirement that Meta requires for all apps that export to WhatsApp, so it applies to them, not ChatGPT.
The same transparent background trick works on all images generated in ChatGPT, not just stickers, so it’s worth remembering the next time you need a clean cut for something completely different.
I tried creating some stickers using the new feature and I’m very happy with them. Stickers are fun and surprisingly easy to make. If you like sending stickers in chat, definitely give it a try.
