TL; DR

With August behind us, Google’s September feature capture could be ready to arrive any day now. This is the software that the company tested as Android 17 QPR1, which released its Beta 9 version earlier this month. But that’s not what Google is cooking up, and we’re also keeping an eye on what could be our big year-end update in development as QPR2. It’s been two weeks since QPR2 Beta 3 landed, and today Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 hits the schedule.
Google stocks Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 is arriving today for Pixel testers, either version CP41.260814.003.A2 or CP41.260814.003.B1 depending on the hardware.
Despite the Pixel 11 becoming available at retail last week, Google hasn’t yet released the QPR2 for it, but the company says it should be available soon. Like the previous QPR2 versions, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are not supported, as they will be out of Google’s software window when the shooting stable release is released.
With this release, Google says that QPR2 Beta 4 has reached platform stability. Here’s what Google is sharing that has been fixed:
- Enabling the “Show apps under docked area” developer option caused a transparent status bar in the dock after exiting full-screen video playback. (Issue #295747911)
- Thermal management issue causing devices to overheat and reboot unexpectedly during use. (Issue #437116407)
- An issue preventing screen mirroring to external USB-C XR glasses. (Issue #439269938)
- Gesture navigation became unresponsive when displaying apps below the display bezel. (Issue #441378954)
- Optimizing the 80% battery limit caused excessive charging times during the last 2% limit. (Issue #477009501, Issue #476803337)
- Launcher UI issue where searching for apps in the app drawer could not handle text input. (Issue #505157934, Issue #527921034, Issue #530531588, Issue #537704656)
- Calling up the power menu via the hardware buttons resulted in the absence of the background blur effect behind the navigation bar. (Issue #537202501)
- An issue where the phone call sound is assigned to the phone speaker instead of connected Bluetooth devices by default. (Issue #537908014, Issue #541501134, Issue #541772860, Issue #545047074)
- A recent app switcher display bug where the first task card would freeze intermittently when scrolling horizontally, causing it to be visually squeezed behind other apps. (Issue #530484511, Issue #505564040, Issue #545574713, Issue #551022006)
- An audio service resource lock enabled during screen recording that prevents applications and input methods such as Gboard and Gemini from using the microphone until the device is restarted. (Issue #538229807)
- A visual inconsistency in the system’s user interface, the power button to turn off the screen from the home screen caused a simple shutdown instead of a screen off animation. (Issue #541261786)
- Low contrast display issue in dark mode where the cog icon for enabled Wi-Fi settings is barely visible. (Issue #536320341)
- Enabling 3D mode on the connected smart glasses resulted in a blank screen. (Issue #536628506)

- An issue where WebGL applications hang or crash the browser process when merging shademaps with peak color attributes by resolving invalid memory read in the PowerVR GPU driver’s texture state processing. (Issue #541322087)
- Face Unlock errors in low light, bypassing the fingerprint lock and forcing a PIN. (Issue #547597971, Issue #545329611, Issue #541723970)
