Apple has reportedly scrapped two new MacBook models, including a large foldable MacBook and a larger OLED model that would have gone above the current MacBook Pro lineup.
According to the research firm OmgApple canceled development of the foldable MacBook, which would have been between 16.1 and 18 inches when unfolded. The device was previously linked to a 2026 production date, although earlier reports described it as a large foldable iPad rather than a MacBook.
Apple appears to have ditched separate 14.4-inch and 16.1-inch OLED MacBooks. This model would have occupied a new level between the existing MacBook Pro sizes and the canceled foldable MacBook. With both products seemingly off the schedule, the 14.3-16.3-inch range will continue to be reserved for the MacBook Pro lineup.
This does not mean that Apple is completely backing away from OLED MacBooks. According to Omdia, the company’s broader plan to bring OLED displays to all MacBook and iPad lineups remains the same, although Apple has reportedly changed which products will get the technology and which OLED technology will be used.
One of those changes could be a new 13.8-inch MacBook that sits between the LCD MacBook Air and the OLED MacBook Pro. The machine is said to be developed with a new OLED panel using LTPO+ technology.
Interestingly, Apple is not expected to immediately retire its existing mini LED MacBook Pro models when the OLED versions arrive. According to Omdia, the two display technologies could remain on sale side by side for several years, and mini-LED models are expected until at least 2028.
For now, a foldable MacBook and a larger OLED model don’t seem to be in Apple’s plans, but the company’s wider MacBook OLED printing is still very much alive.
