Following this week’s Apple event, CEO John Ternus and SVP of Marketing Greg Joswiak sat down for an interview to talk more about the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.
In an interview with Tom’s Guide And TechRadarTernus and Joswiak discussed why Apple decided now was the time to enter the foldable market. Ternus also touched on his feelings after his first week as Apple CEO.
As for why Apple feels now is the time to announce the iPhone Duo, Ternus explains:
“I think for us, it’s always about when we have a product concept that meets our bar for quality and durability, but also for design. What I think is particularly amazing about the Duo is, it’s a great example of hardware and software coming together to make something really special.
It is like a green field of opportunity for us because there is an opportunity to rethink many different things. And I think you see it in the hardware, and you see it in the software, and the design. It all comes together and feels like the right product.
Joz, meanwhile, added that what Apple has seen other smartphone makers do in the foldable space “isn’t very inspiring.”
“If you see what’s out there, it’s not just kind of a plastic surface that feels cheap, they feel uncomfortable to the touch, they’re wavy, they’re wrinkled,” Ternus added, referring to the display of the foldable phone.
Ternus was also asked about the moment he discovered he would be CEO of Apple:
It’s amazing, what a special privilege, right? The truth is I just, I love this place. It’s in my blood. I have been here for half of my life. I love the people I work with. I love being able to create products that we all create together. And so, goosebumps, excitement and yes, just real, like really, really excited about the future.
