Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority
to add Android Authority On Google:
TL; DR
- Google is working on adding Gemini overlap reduction.
- Users are now starting to see the option on their devices.
- It looks like Google is slowly rolling out the new button.
While this isn’t necessarily a problem, the Gemini overlay for screen capture isn’t ideal for multitasking. Because it locks you out, you can’t do anything else on your phone until you’re done with the chatbot. Last year, we saw evidence that Google was working on a fix with this tracking mitigation feature. Now it looks like Google is starting to make up its own mind.
Users are reporting (1, 2, 3) they started seeing a new zoom out button for the Gemini overlay. Based on the examples, the UI looks similar to the design we found in June, which adds a special “Minimize Twins” button that appears when you chat with the AI. The first version we saw didn’t have a button, which prevented many users from opening the option.
A new zoom function allows users to reduce the size of an overlay. This means you can open apps and scroll through your Gemini invitations while they process them in the background. When zoomed out, the overlay turns into a bubble with the Gemini logo. You’ll also see a text box next to the circle telling you that you can tap to expand the overlay, drag the bubble to move it to another area, or close Gemini.
Based on the small number of reports, it appears that the zoom out button is not yet widely available. It seems that Google is gradually trying to roll out.
