Apple has told Mac App Store developers they can drop support for Intel

Apple began notifying developers today that common macOS apps in the Mac App Store that require macOS 13 or later could drop support for Intel-based Macs.

In an email, Apple said:

We’re reaching out to let you know that common macOS apps in the Mac App Store that require macOS 13 or later can now get support for Intel-based Mac computers.

By removing support for Intel-based Mac computers, you can improve your development and optimize downloads and sizes on the device.

To get Intel support, update your app build settings to “arm64” only. Then, create a new and submit your app to the Mac App Store.

Previously, developers needed to offer Intel compatibility. With today’s change, developers can drop support for Intel-based Macs. However, Intel users can continue to use the latest version of the app that is compatible with their device.

The change comes as macOS 27 Golden Gate drops support for all Intel-powered Macs. Apple also announced last year that Rosetta 2, the software that translates Intel apps for Apple Silicon, will stop after macOS 27 (with some exceptions for some games).
