The new OLED iPad mini is expected to be available at the end of October

Apple has a lot in store for this fall, with the iPhone Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro titles launching next month. Apple is still working on a new iPad mini, and a new report today suggests that it will arrive in October.

A new iPad mini is coming soon

In his latest version Open the machine NewsletterMark Gurman reports that the new iPad mini with an OLED screen “should be on sale by the end of October.”

This suggests that the new iPad mini will not be announced at a special “Surprise and shine” event next month. Instead, Apple may make a separate announcement in October, through a press release or another event.

As a refresher, here’s what to expect from the next iPad mini:

  • OLED display
  • Faster performance, may use A19 Pro or A20 Pro chip
  • Better water resistance thanks to the “new box design”
  • A new vibration-based speaker system

This will mark the first update to the iPad mini in two years. Apple last updated the device in October 2024, adding the A17 Pro chip, Apple Pencil Pro support, and Apple Intelligence compatibility.

The price of the iPad mini increased by $100 earlier this year, from $499 to $599. It’s in the moment Selling for $569 on Amazon. Whether the next production model will be at a higher price remains to be seen.

I think one of the biggest questions now is the iPhone Ultra foldable will affect the iPad mini market. iPhone Ultra offers a 2-in-1 iPhone and iPad mini model. Will that make the iPad mini stand alone? I wonder, because I think a lot of people like to keep their iPad and iPhone separate.
