At the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, SAIC’s MG brand has officially unveiled its new mid-size sedan, the MG 07, and the pricing might really surprise you. According to CarNewsChinathe car is available in seven configurations and is priced between 108,900 yuan and 159,900 yuan, or roughly $16,000 to $23,500, making it one of the cheapest electric cars.
Surprisingly premium design for a $16,000 sedan
The MG 07 stands out with a star ring lamp cluster at the front and semi-hidden door handles for a cleaner silhouette. It is 4886mm long and rides on a 2825mm wheelbase, paired with frameless doors, two-tone wheels and yellow brake calipers. At the back, there is a through-type taillight and a 5-step adjustable electric spoiler. There are six paint options to choose from, including Morello Purple, Notting Grey, Oxford Blue, Milia Pink, California Blue and Salt Lake White.

At the top of the powertrain, MG offers both EV and PHEV options. The EV runs on an 800V platform, offering 315 horsepower and a maximum range of 845 km, while the PHEV pairs a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor for a combined range of 1,745 km. The 610km range EV trims interestingly use Qingtao’s semi-solid batteries, while all other variants stick to CATL’s more familiar LFP cells.
Inside the cabin, things get really interesting
The cabin is very well done. You get a wraparound cockpit with a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen that runs on the 8295P chip. The driver’s seat is heated and ventilated, and the passenger side even has a “queen” zero gravity mode. Add in the multifunction vanity mirror, 21-speaker sound system and active mCDC suspension, and the comfort package is truly thoughtful. MG has also added LiDAR here, which is powered by Momenta’s R7 world model.

The MG 07’s price may be its biggest selling point
If you’ve been eyeing the EV version, pre-sales started last month at 125,900 yuan, or about $18,600. Deliveries are staggered depending on which region you choose. Choose the 650 km version and you should receive it by the end of August. Choose the longer range of 845 km instead, and you have to wait until October.
