The AMD64 installer for Ubuntu 24.04.5 has been released after extended installation failures.
-
The TPMFDE files were removed, but the installer still referenced them and caused crashes.
-
The AMD64 download now serves version 24.04.4; Does not affect non-AMD64 images. Canonical to be fixed soon.
The vast majority of operating system errors occur while it’s running, but it’s not unheard of for problems to occur before it’s even installed on your system. This applies to Ubuntu 24.04.5 Noble, which has the AMD64 installer removed because it fails to install the OS when someone chooses to do an advanced install.
The Ubuntu 24.04.5 installer has been returned to the workshop for additional bug fixes
It’s a pretty nasty mistake to be fair
As noticed OMG UbuntuIn the 24.04.5 installer, some TPMFDE support files were removed from it. However, the installer referenced the files even though they no longer exist. This will cause the installer to crash when trying to perform an advanced installation. according to error report:
Main issues:
* livecd-rootfs: Removed part of TPMFDE support from Noble ISO files when doing task 7c77dd158b7728583bf8251c02ff6bce42b6dce0. This means that the files needed to create TPMFDE are mostly removed. There are other references to “enhanced-secure-boot”, which leads me to believe that TPMFDE is possible.
* subequity: although subequity detects that the TPMFDE bits are missing, it returns incompletely to the non-TPMFDE state. It should completely ignore the TPMFDE option.
As such, the company has removed the 24.04.5 installer from its download page. If you want to download it, it will download 24.04.4 instead, despite the page header claiming you’re getting 24.04.05. It should be noted that other non-AMD64 installers, such as the server edition, are not affected. Hopefully Canonical can fix it soon.
